The glaze kiln

Step 6a The glazing kiln.

Once dried, the piece is then placed in a gloss kiln and fired to approximately 1090°C.
 The design stage

Step 7 The initial design process.

Initially, the design (clients own or original), is reviewed by our own in-house ceramic printers, who will be adapting each piece in the collection accordingly.

"Black impressions" of the design are fitted to the proposed range of china and shown to the client. Their thoughts and suggestions are then taken into consideration.

 Decorating a plate

Step 8 Decorating the china.

Decorating

The transfers are applied by hand, as is the gold if used and pieces are then fired again to approximately 820°C, which seals the decoration into the glaze.

The decorating process may take several firings depending on the complexity of the decorating.Whether it is a small tankard or a 12 inch plate the transfer is applied with the same care and attention.

It is at this stage that it is vital to spot any inconsistencies in the china as it is impossible to go back once the china has been fired.

 Gilding the piece

Step 9 Gilding the glazed china.

Here we see an experienced 'Gilder' applying the gold rim to the top of the piece.

Step 10 Final presentation.

Final "bringing together"

The client will have expressed a colour scheme for both the rigid, "logo embossed" box and tissue.

A collectors card will also require the clients input. Any final adjustments, will be made if necessary and presented to the client for production approval.
